FOX 5/Atlanta: Some students call them smart pills or brain steroids. Adderall and Ritalin are legal stimulants prescribed for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder — ADHD — in ever greater numbers. For years now, students who don’t have that problem have been taking the drugs for a competitive edge. But the problem is growing. Russ Spencer reports. The report includes interviews with Georgia Tech student John Howard, Lieutenant Mike Hunsiger, students Eric Worrell and Mary Margaret Powers, UGA drug counselor Mike Friedline and psychiatrist Dr. Richard Winer. @whenhen I think it can be bad for your health, but how is it cheating? The people that take the drug are able to spend more time learning, but they are still learning and can retain that info. Cheaters generally don’t retain information, they borrow it for the moment.

@remorrs when you become addicted and begging for help then you will realize why the substances are illegal without a prescription

  3. @stickyhandss i dont have adhd, i dont have any symptoms that require adderall, but i still pop them simply because i enjoy the rush, is that bad? well, i dont think so. but i guess any anti-drug straight-edge would think thats “wrong”. well, i pop them fairly often, and i dont feel abnormal if i dont, and function jst fine without them. so i dont think its fucked my brain up. that enough proof for you?

  4. @kinghingle not cheating if its not writen in a rule book.

  5. kinghingle

@remorrs ur a cheater and its wrong! :p

fuck adderall i used to take it now i dont feel normal like before

  8. you know absolutely nothing about him yet you can say he has an addiction problem? that alone loses you pretty much all credibility

on the contrary, i’ve seen several college students take a pill before a test a couple times a year without ever touching the med again. i’m not saying it’s fine to take unprescribed drugs, but i think over-dramatizing it to make it out as a death pill is just stupid

i hate when cops say “oh its against the law and all this crap” and they say its causes this and that when they are not even doctors. I know its against the law and all the consequences that come someone having controlled substances but who gives a shit. No one oh and fyi when that guy said “yea i think its cheating if its not prescribed to you” dude wake up if someone does have a prescribtion for it they can still cheat by abusing it. what idiots

what i wrote did have some opinions, but my point was to warn people. ‘my own reasons’ are the facts that it can permanently alter your brain chemistry with heavy use, leaving you depressed and/or manic. thats not an opinion and i just wanted to share that information with whoever might come across it. its not like fucking candy. maybe someone will read that and not abuse the drug, or at least start using it with the knowledge that they should be careful.

@stickyhandss Thats no point you re making, you use it and since you do in moderation you expect others to do the same, coz you have your own reasons!well tell you what in the real world opinions are like assholes everyone`s got one. You may say what you want but it wont change the fact that people will abuse the drug,in the real world donts are changed into “do it harder”Thats a fact and that`s also something nobody can change unfortunately

  12. stickyhandss

like with anything, just use moderation… more like scarcity. putting your brain on that high is NOT natural, your brain is not made to function like that. I use it and other drugs on occasion, but i KNOW that substances like that shouldnt be used often. if you do not have a real, severe problem with concentration, you shouldnt be taking adderall more than a few times a month… a few pills before a test, oh just a few more for this assignment, and that one too.. it can fuck your brain up

I know this is the internet but can I please make a serious point, listen for a second! Adderall is not the same exact substance as speed, but they are VERY similar. The reason people dont realize that its a harmful thing is because there is no stigma that its a [bad/hard] DRUG, people see it as a helpful pill. but think about it! it still messes with and alters your brain chemistry, that is serious shit, not something that should be messed with often!!

  14. galtzur21

    yes its still a drug!!!!

  15. galtzur21

so if u get side effects and dosnt need it , dont take it maybe?

  16. SelflessEmpire

If you abuse this of course you will be up for days, If you have add and you really need it, you will no your body and adjust your dosage properly. If your smart you will try to give yourself a stimulant break, maybe the weekends or vacation. Its definitely not something just to do for recreation. It has its price, like loosing some of your creativity and being social. Adderall is to dopamine, what MDMA (ecstasy) is to seratonin. You have to be careful, if abused you will find yourself in a pit.

  17. scryerofold

Those that use them work harder when they study.

seriously, couldn’t sleep for two days my ass dumb cunt its called eating drinking beer to come down bitch just kill your worthless ass nigger

  19. BradyThe1st

sophomore in high school this year…no add/adhd
    Grades before taking speed (adderall)
    | D- | F+ | C | D | D- | D- | D+ |

Grades after 1.5 weeks (used adderall 3 times in this period)…
    | C | D+ | B | C | C+ | C | C+ |

(most of the C’s will be B’s very soon.)

  20. MJCraddock

fucking love adderall. pop is like candy!!!

  21. @BradyThe1st i agree, ritalin stimulates the brain so you could potentialy absorb more information than someone not on the drug…its all about where you focus the energy and that is where you will excel.
someones education is totally personal and how thay obtain it is their choice.
I guess its like the old saying ” opinions are like arseholes, everyones got one.”

  22. BradyThe1st

@revan100290 also, they completely exaggerated on the negative side effects…i have little experience with speed, but im 100% sure that 20mgs wont make you stay awake for 2 1/2 days, they probably never stopped to think “hmm, maybe that girl didnt take 20mgs, maybe she took way more, or some other drug that she didnt know about…” this shit pisses me off

  23. BradyThe1st

@samblah it is not cheating, these people act like adderall makes you smarter all of the sudden, which it obviously doesnt. this is not cheating, just help.

  24. BradyThe1st

@revan100290 yeah news channel idiots always tell the bad side of the story, never once in the video did they ever say how much it helps students, as if there’s no reason un-prescribed people take them…there’s a damn good reason people take them, but the fucking news team doesnt even bother telling exactly why. they’re so biased, every news team/channel in america does this same crap, it’s annoying, maybe they should interview people who enjoy taking it, or have some 1st hand information.
